Beyond the Grade

For years trainers and academicians have been at odds when it came down to defining how each discipline contributed to the 'whole' of the individual. Whether the individual was a student, practitioner, or a combination of the two.

While attending a conference at the Post Naval Graduate School in Monterey, California, a colleague offered this insight for these two functions:
We train for the known; We teach for the unknown.
So the next time a student/practitioner asks where the value in learning comes from, help them to understand the value and the purpose behind their instruction, beyond the grade.
